Teaching styleTeaching Methodology for Online Mentees My online teaching approach is designed to be interactive, personalized, and structured to ensure deep understanding, even in a virtual environment. I begin by assessing each mentee’s current knowledge, comfort with English or the subject language, and learning style. This helps me adapt the pace and delivery to suit their individual needs. Each topic is taught in a three-step framework: 1. Concept Introduction – I explain the topic with real-life examples and relatable analogies to build interest and clarity. 2. Step-by-Step Demonstration – I solve examples live using screen sharing, highlighting the “why” behind each step, not just the “how.” 3. Active Practice – Mentees are given guided exercises during the session and asked to explain their approach, which boosts confidence and retention. I make use of visual aids, live annotations, polls, and quizzes to maintain engagement. Every class ends with a brief recap and a short Q&A, ensuring no doubts are carried forward. Additionally, I provide summary notes, practice questions, and encourage one-on-one check-ins when needed. My goal is not just to teach—but to build independent, confident learners, all in a supportive and motivating online space.

The article details the JEE preparation journey of a second-year undergraduate student at IIT Delhi, who achieved an AIR 2978 in JEE Advanced and a 99.72 percentile in JEE Mains in 2022. The student began preparing for JEE in 2020 after Class 10, enrolling at Allen Sikar with a dummy school setup to focus entirely on JEE preparation. The COVID-19 pandemic necessitated online coaching, requiring strong self-discipline. The student maintained a structured routine, dedicating 6–8 hours daily to self-study, focusing on conceptual clarity, solving DPPs, and taking mock tests. Organic Chemistry was initially challenging, but the student overcame this by revising NCERT thoroughly and practicing intensively. The preparation strategy centered on NCERT mastery, error tracking, and consistent revision, which proved successful.
The student chose a coaching-based preparation method for its structured guidance, expert mentorship, and regular assessments, which suited self-disciplined students comfortable with limited school interaction. Advantages included access to experienced teachers and quality materials, while drawbacks involved challenges with online learning and minimal peer interaction. To overcome these, the student created a strict home study routine and focused on targeted revision for weak subjects like Organic Chemistry.
The student relied on Allen Sikar's comprehensive study materials and a few standard books, such as HC Verma for Physics and NCERT for Chemistry. Time was divided with 60% on practice, 30% on theory and revision, and 10% on test analysis. The student avoided excessive resources, focusing on revising a limited number of materials multiple times to maintain effective preparation.
